First portrait in 3 years

It's been a while since my last post. I've as always been too busy making clothes to fit in any art. But then a couple of days ago my wonderful boyfriend asked if I would draw him and his friend, so I did. I haven't drawn portraits like these in over 3 years, so it was quite a challenge, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Progression

Finally trying to get a bit of drawing into my daily routine! I started this mushroom one ageees ago and just picked it up again. I’m getting there, (very) slowly!

And here’s another that I’ve recently started on, not really sure where I’m going with it at all, but my head is so focused on sewing at the moment that I need to force myself to find time for something fun that isn’t work related!

Hope everyone had a good Valentines day yesterday!

Beautiful Frost : )

Look at the lovely frost patterns on my windows this morning! I know I’m not the best photographer, but I had to take some, I’ve never seen frost look so pretty. It almost makes up for not being able to feel my fingers as I type :D It looks like giant snails have been up all night partying on my windows.

PVC Clothing by me!

So I’ve hardly done any drawing lately, but I have been working pretty much 15 hour days, designing and making and selling new clothes. So I thought I’d show a couple of my most recent ones and continue promising to get some new drawings up on here soon!

New Clothing by me!!

I’ve been really busy lately so I havn’t had much chance to write, but I’m here now! I’ve actually been getting a few orders which makes me very happy and when I havn’t been doing that, I’ve been busy designing and making new things, as well as attempting to have some sort of social life and find time for meals. Oh and i'm also finding the odd half hour a day to keep on sketching. This is why there are not enough hours in the day, i have far too much i want to achieve!

I still have lots more new ideas but here’s what I’ve been done so far...i made all of these yesterday.

Snow Day!

I can’t believe how much snow we’ve had lately! I’ve never seen such deep snow my whole life! On Monday morning I was completely shocked when I opened my eyes to this…..

Here’s the lovely view of the hills outside of my window and below is the view of my street taken from the hill in the evening.

Drawing My Thoughts

I just spent 10 minutes hanging out of my window trying to catch snowflakes on my mousemat to take a photo of, but my laptop started to get bombarded so i thought i'd best give up!

This is how I’m feeling today...

Calm and at peace. And a little bit up in the clouds.

I’ve been messaging this guy on myspace and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to know someone so fast and enjoyed talking to them quite so much. It’s not just casual chatting, it is literally writing an essay or letter back and forth several times a day. I admit men do message me quite a lot on myspace, but only on a few occasions have I actually gone on to getting to know them well and becoming good friends. This guy however, I have so much in common with that it’s almost funny, it’s almost as if he’s my long lost brother or something (though I hope not!)

Anyway I’ve met various men off the internet in the past (always carefully!) but this guy lives 3 hours away from me so we haven’t met. I know it shouldn’t be possible to have feelings for someone if you’ve never met them, because no matter how well you know them in writing, the personality you mentally create for them will never be quite accurate unless you see them in person, but I can’t help it.

It’s also terrible timing because I have a plan and my plan is to be married to my career for several years at least before allowing myself to be distracted by meeting new men or finding space for another human to be part of my life, but I’m just so curious as to what meeting this guy would be like. I’m torn between not losing focus and not letting potentially awesome experiences pass me by.

Letting go…

Do you think it’s possible to have feelings for someone without having even met them? I don’t even know whether if we ever met he’d actually view me as more than a friend or not. But I’ve never before felt a connection with someone quite like this. Without even meaning to or realising, he seems to make my whole attitude towards life so positive and appreciative. I even feel like I’m starting to let go of the negative experiences in my past.

Regardless of what happens, this is how I feel right now-letting go, ready to start over :)

Saturday

This is the first thing I saw when I woke up this morning disgustingly hungover. Not a bad way to start the day!

Photobucket

Today has gone far too slowly. Now, I’m not normally one to complain about time going to slow, if anything I usually wish it would slow down. But when you’re far too tired to function and too reluctant to sleep, it can be quite tedious! Anyway I managed to do some more scanning this evening. Here are a couple of my favourite parts of some old sketches..i really need to get round to doing some new ones.

This is the one I’ve been working on most recently, I need to get on and get it finished. You can't tell because I've cropped it close, but in real life this is about half the size.

Friday 30 January 2009

Today i had some new photos taken for my clothing company! These are only a couple but i had to re-do a bunch of old ones which i looked pretty terrible in! Okay so i know the first one is a bit sexual for a clothing company but it started off being just a casual shoot for my friend's photography, but then i decided i might aswell use it anyway.

Photobucket

This is one of my favourite jackets that i sell. It's not one of the ones i actually make myself, but oh well i like it anyway. And it's so so soft inside, gorgeous cotton fleece! :)

Photobucket

Oh and i found another biro sketch to show you, i did half of this one sitting in the fields near my dads house and then finished it sitting on the hills overlooking my house. I don't know why i always need to be sitting in the open air in order to do these drawings considering they're not drawn from life. But i guess i just have to get outside in order to feel inspired, considering i spend my entire day (every day) sitting in my room staring at a computer screen!

More Fairies

Right I finally figured out how to use my scanner, so today I can show a few more of my drawings without them looking too crappy. The first one is another really old one, but I quite like her so I thought I might as well show you anyway. I did this one using a standard black ball point pen, which sometimes I like because the contrast between the dark of the pen and the white of the page looks very sharp but it’s pretty difficult getting any other tones with the pen, (although quite a fun challenge!)

Photobucket

This second one is a much more recent drawing, although it isn’t my own design, I drew it from these fairy tarot cards that my mum gave me years ago called “Healing with the Fairies” by Doreen Virtue. As you can see I never really got round to finishing it and I messed up the perspective a bit (a lot) but I enjoyed doing it all the same. I did this one when I first moved to Brighton, the first two weeks of living here I was alone, I had no internet-so no connection with the outside world and I didn’t know a soul who lived anywhere near. Drawing was about all I had to keep me (partially) sane.

Red and Black Manga Bags

I just realised that the style and colours of the first picture that I just posted is so similar to these bags! Not that I copied them or anything! I drew these way before I started selling clothes. But looking at the drawing made me think of the bags.

Two More (VERY) Old Drawings by Me

Considering the lovely positive feedback I received from my biro sketches, I thought I’d share with you a couple more. These two are much much older and I think I was a bit disturbed at the time because they are fairly gruesome and depressing in comparrison to lovely, happy, cheery fairies!

It's also quite hard to see all the detail clearly in these pictures, i need to learn how to use my scanner, rather than take photos of work! I also really need to get on and do some more pictures, I wish there were more hours in the day! *Mental note-replace evening “movie watching time” with “art time”!

Old Photography and Art

Sunday morning and it's completely miserable, wet and black outside. Not to mention freezing. Today im supposed to be modelling for my friends fashion photography again. Im quite excited but also nervous as i havnt done it in years! These were my favourite ones that he took a long time ago...

They were supposed to be demonstrating how the whole vanity, beauty and makeup thing has gone so over the top that it's almost unnattractive and sickly. I think i look pretty scary and greasy :S But i love how rich and vibrant the overall images came out. Im not sure why the fruits were neccessary, I must admit-it was quite amusing trying to keep a serious face while rubbing fruit all over it. The worst one was definately where i had to lick a coconut and pretend i was enjoying it!

Here we go....

That second one makes me laugh!

Anyway as you can probably guess I've been going through loads of old stuff and dug out these old photographs and drawings. I miss the summer, i love just going off cycling or walking in fields and finding somewhere to sit down for a few hours and draw weird fantasy art.

I did these while sitting in a field near my dads house, as you can probably tell i love doing biro sketches, you can get so much detail and it stands out so much sharper than when using pencil. I cant wait until it's summer again and i can start getting out more often and get inspired!

Saturday 24 January 2009

So, it's Saturday today...

Wow i've had such a great week. Even though i don’t make that much money, I feel fulfilled and satisfied because I’ve been working hard and have achieved lots :) My dad came to visit on Thursday and took me shopping so now i can actually eat proper meals! Sometimes i miss living with my dad, i miss my old bedroom. I spent weeks painting it like a jungle, but it doesnt look like this anymore, it's gone white and been made into a guest room :(

This is how it used to look..

I guess it's hard to imagine how it looked in 3D as the pictures dont really fit together that well and it was a pretty big room.

Anyway last night i went out to a gig in town where one of my friends was playing, which was pretty fun. And spent this morning making these items for an order...

Photobucket

Didnt too bad a job considering how tired and hungover i was :)

I really need to get back into playing guitar regularly again, my fingers are starting to go soft. When i was a kid i never really believed my parents when they said "there aren't enough hours in the day" but im really starting to feel it now. I rarely have enough time to get done all of my work aswell as find time for drawing and practicing guitar and still being able to have some form of a social life!

Introduction

So here goes my first blog post. My name is Emily Red, 20 years of age, I live in the UK, Brighton to be precise. And a few of my favourite things include playing my guitars, making money, drawing and alternative fashion. Here’s my most recent picture of me.

Photobucket

I decided to start blogging because I would like to show and share my ideas, experiences and opinions and meet other creative and colourful people like myself. Today im feeling quite arty so I thought I’d show a couple of biro sketches I did of a beach in Rinsey, Cornwall. This is my favourite place in the world.

Photobucket

It's actually more of a cove than a beach, the sand is entirely covered by the sea at high tide and it's completely wild and unspoilt by tourists. Often i get down there in the morning and there wont be a single footprint on the sand.

Photobucket

To get to the cove you have to climb down a cliff and half way down is an old copper mine where i love to sit and draw.

Here’s me in the mine :)
